DEAR MEDIA EVENT RECAP & TRAVELING ALONE

As you may have seen on our IG, I recently traveled to Austin for the Dear Media IRL event. Dear Media is a podcast network made up of celebrities, brands, influencers, entrepreneurs, and creators alike. I went to this event alone, and I’m actually so glad I did. Traveling alone has been something I’ve had to do in the past to catch an event for Emma Lou or networking opportunities I didn’t want to miss. Honestly, there is no better way to put yourself out there than traveling by yourself.

The day was jam packed with speakers, networking, and some shopping brands that are some of Lauryn and Michaels favorites. You may know her as the Skinny Confidential, or the co-host of the TSC Him & Hers podcast show, but Lauryn Bosstick has been such a huge supporter of Emma Lou since I first started, and I was so excited to finally meet her in person, and knew I couldn’t pass up this opportunity to finally meet her IRL and say a huge thank you for everything that she has done for me. (us finally meeting here heheh)

I wanted to put myself out of my comfort zone a bit and do this event alone to almost force myself to get out there and meet others, which is exactly what happened! I noticed that when I go places with friends (doesn’t even have to be a business event), I tend to stick with the group I came with an not venture out, as most of us probably do (unless you’re a social butterfly.. which love that for you). And because I went alone, I was more compelled to strike up a convo with someone I didn't know, or I otherwise would have been too timid to introduce myself if I had the comfort of my friends there.

There’s something so empowering about being alone! And the fun part of the Dear Media IRL day was that most of the girls I met were alone too, so that in itself made me feel better. It’s the little things that make you grow as a person, and this was definitely one of them for me since I have been especially anxious lately.

It will never hurt to get out there, talk to people about what you’re building, and listening to other people’s stories. You never know who you are going to meet!

xoxo
